If you are interested in scheduling a library instruction session for any course you are teaching that has library research as a component of the class, librarians can tailor library instruction sessions to meet the needs of your students. Topics that can be covered include – but are not limited to:

1. Searching the ND Catalog
2. Searching article databases
3. Using specialized subject databases
4. Evaluating sources of information
5. Using information ethically and legally
6. Citing sources using RefWorks

Update Print@ND Utility

New Xerox printers have been installed in all of the residence halls, computer labs and libraries across campus. If you are having difficulty printing from a laptop to these pharos printers, you will need to run the updated version of the Print @ ND utility. The instructions are on the OIT web page here:

Hesburgh Libraries and CUSE to Offer Undergraduate Research Award

Hesburgh Libraries and The Center for Undergraduate Scholarly Engagement are pleased to announce the 2010 Library Undergraduate Research Award, which aims to promote intellectual discovery and advancement of lifelong learning. The purpose of this award is to recognize undergraduates who demonstrate excellent research skills and who incorporate library resources, collections and services into their scholarly and creative projects.

Three prizes will be awarded: one first prize of $1,000 and two honorable mentions of $500 each.

Mark your calendars: GIS Day November 20

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are used to visualize, question, analyze and understand features on the earth as digital, spatial data. Analysis of GIS data can reveal patterns and highlight spatial connections and correlations not readily apparent.

Friday, November 20th from 1-5pm in the Hesburgh Library Auditorium, GIS Day at Notre Dame will bring together researchers, local government agencies and busiensses with the goal of building a community of interest around the display and manipulation of geospatial data.

The Engineering Library has access to a database researchers sometimes overlook, IET Inspec. This database:

· Covers 100% IEEE journals and proceedings, PLUS much more (IEEE is only 10% of total content)
· Covers worldwide literature from China, Hong Kong, India, UK, etc.
· Strong in photonics, nanotechnology, biomedical (especially materials)
· Covers Physics, EE & Electronics, Computers & Control, Information Technology, Mechanical and Production Engineering
· Research back to 1969, links to ND full text e-content
